Starting Guide for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is a topic that has been coming up more frequently than ever. Roughly sixty percent of women and forty percent of men have reported experiencing unpleasant issues with their skin. While affecting many parts of the body, the skin around the face is a large cause for concern as there can be an unsightly appearance front and center. 

 

There are many factors that can contribute to sensitive skin and narrowing it down can sometimes feel like a daunting task. Exposure to the elements, inflammatory issues within the body, nerve pathways, stress and so on can all be key shareholders in why you are experiencing sensitivities. While we may not know the exact cause, we can certainly limit the discomfort and help the body repair itself.

 

- Start by examining your diet as there are many resources out there that can help you identify if you are having allergic reactions to food. There are also common offenders that affect skin such as lactose and gluten.

 

- Ask yourself if you are you getting enough exercise. Bringing oxygen to the surface of your skin through blood circulation promotes healthy cell turnover and function on a holistic level. As well, are you overexposed to sun or extreme temperatures? Skin needs to be both protected and cared for in a way that matches your lifestyle.

 

- Take a look at the ingredients on your topical products to eliminate drying agents or ingredients that could be irritating. Acne medication, harsh cleansers, fragrances, colorants, etc. are all on our watch list.

 

- Use the correct quality and density of moisturizer for your skin type and the area being treated. Look for ingredients that are anti-inflammatory and will give you the nourishing agents that your skin is craving to heal itself.
