VEGAN BEAUTY PRODUCTS - ARE THEY WORTH IT?
There has been so much hype around the green beauty revolution and bigger companies are starting to take hold. So why has this movement been in demand and why will the choice to use vegan products be beneficial to you and the world around you?
The first and foremost reason why we support the vegan choice is our love for animals. Especially having grown up with pets, we developed compassion and love for each other. I can't imagine ever wanting to harm an animal. Thankfully, we live in a day and age where we are evolving past animal cruelty. Collectively, our ideas of how things should be done have shifted and more than ever we are demanding to see that change. Now we have been shown that we can have extremely effective products without having to resort to old ways of thinking! There is so much research out there that has shown the effectiveness and even superiority of plant based products.
" The majority of Canadians support making testing cosmetics (or their ingredients) on animals illegal in Canada. The federal Bill S-214, called the Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, amends the Food and Drugs Act to prohibit cosmetic animal testing and the sale of cosmetics developed or manufactured using animal testing." - BC SPCA
While many of us agree with the most recent changes surrounding the laws that govern cosmetic companies testing on animals, we often forget that just because an animal isn't experimented on that those products will still include ingredients derived from the animals themselves.
This brings me to my second point, without the use of excessive animal farming, we are living in a much more eco-conscious way. Choosing plant based ingredients over animal products changes the way we produce on a mass scale. As a result we have a reduction in greenhouse gases, land use, water use and many other environmental factors. There is an amazing article written by The Guardian that details the environmental impact we have in a compelling way. It comes highly recommended that you take a look!
Consumption and use of animal products on a more personal level, however, is just as scary. They are considered highly inflammatory which is particularly harmful for people with existing skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and many other problematic skin types. It isn't just these people that should be paying close attention though, it is well known that they can clog pores and cause breakouts in people with otherwise healthy skin. We all want to maintain or create the best version of ourselves and choosing plant based ingredients that are nutrient dense, extremely hydrating and gentle on some of the most sensitive skin will certainly help you on your way!
I am excited to share with you the many ways that we can improve both the health and appearance of your skin through educated choices. Stay tuned for more insights!
